After a Northern Virginia winter, your home has been through freezing temperatures, ice, and moisture. Spring is the perfect time to do a full walkthrough and catch any damage early. Here's our professional checklist.
Exterior Checks
**Roof** - Look for missing, cracked, or lifting shingles - Check flashing around chimneys and vents - Look for granules accumulating in gutters

**Siding & Foundation** - Inspect for cracks, rot, or gaps in siding - Look for foundation cracks (especially horizontal ones) - Check caulking around windows and doors
Interior Checks
**Attic** - Look for moisture stains or mold - Check insulation for settling or damage - Ensure vents are clear
**Plumbing** - Check under sinks for moisture or slow drips - Test water pressure throughout the house - Flush your water heater to remove sediment
**Electrical** - Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors - Check GFCI outlets in bathrooms and kitchen - Look for any flickering lights or tripped breakers
**HVAC** - Replace air filters (should be done every 90 days) - Schedule an A/C tune-up before the heat hits - Check that vents are unobstructed
